I forgot to include this photo when I got to Chester. Yesterday was a great day. I ended up staying with friends of my sister-in-law, Jessie. Veronica and Pete were amazing hosts. I ate like a king, got to do ALL of my laundry, read a book under a huge oak tree, and just enjoyed my hosts immensely. Right after dinner we went to a wildlife refuge and got the daily fill of wildlife. There were tons of deer, and we got to see wild turkeys strutting their stuff. They walked right in front of us across the road. Three toms who were fanning their tail feathers and strutting in front of 5 or 6 hens. It was great.

Today was a good ride. The weather was not too hot. There wasn't any wind, and the road was good. I am in Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. Tomorrow we cross into Kentucky. Lunch was a lot of fun. I sat with a retired welder from a small town in Illinois. He was on a motorcycle, but has also bikes a lot. So we enjoyed talking about the open road.
While we were eating, 3 recent graduates of Georgia Tech pulled up on their bicycles. They had only been on the road for a week, so they asked me tons of questions about biking and what to expect. For the first time on this trip I felt like I had a lot more good information and advice to offer than I was getting back in return. It feels good to be useful.
This is southern Illinois. It looks a lot like Missouri. I like the trees and green. 57 miles today. Til next time.
