A very good end of the day. The biking today was hard, mostly because I was mentally prepared for a light day. There were still 35 miles of hills to get through ( total 47-thought it was going to be 40), and I crossed the Mississippi River on a narrow bridge with lots of semi's vying for space. The drivers were actually really good, but it was still nerve racking. But back to the end of the day - ended up in Chester, Illinois - home of Popeye, Olive Oil, and Bluto. Tonight we are staying at a bike hostel in back of an Eagles fraternal order establishment. Am hanging out with 3 other bikers who are going west (of course). Just having a ball going out to dinner and getting to know these guys. It has been a day to connect  with other cyclists. On the route today, I stopped and talked with Joe from New York City, and Eric and Judy from near Chicago. Eric just retired in January and it starting on his bucket list. The contrast with cyclists is amazing. The young ones are energetic and "between jobs". The older ones are retired. Really having a blast with Charlie, a retired civil engineer from Virginia. The kind of guy who could easily be a friend in "normal" life. Matt, a young, between jobs, guy from Wisconsin has energy to burn. He is interested in working in the medical field. So when he found out my daughter works as a PA, the questions came flying. And then Dan who worked for the New York Jets for three years had some great stories to tell about that. So it has been a very Good end of the day. Sorry it is so disjointed today. I'm a little disjointed. Til next time.
