A fairly short day today. Cold to start with, but ended up taking most of the wool off fairly quickly. The distance traveled each day depends mostly on where one might find shelter for a night. The maps I use are based a lot on how safe the roads are for cyclists, which means that a lot of the time we are on country roads a long way from towns and cities. The choice today was between 37 miles and 107 miles. I went for the 37. The other 70 comes tomorrow. The road kill report - 4 armadillos and one racoon. I thought I saw an armadillo a few days ago, but dismissed it since I didn't think we were in armadillo territory. Turns out we are. The pattern for today's roadkill -nocturnal animals.
We are definitely in conservative, religious territory. Many billboards with Christian messages. As I was leaving Hutchinson today, there was a huge billboard reminding readers to keep the sabbath holy and to rest on the seventh day.  I felt guilty and a little bit like I got caught doing something wrong. A  ways down the road , I noted how much fun I was having. It didn't feel like work. And 37 miles is like resting. How's that for rationalization.
The last few days has seen changing landscape again. Lots of wetlands. Lots of birds. And more and more trees all the time. I love deciduous trees.
Got lucky with dogs today. Three times dogs started to come after me( at least two dogs in each group), but the owners were right there. They immediately called the dogs off, and luckily the dogs obeyed. I waved my appreciation to the owners. The 70 miles tomorrow will be wet ones. At least it won't be thunderstorms this time. Still doing great. Til next time.
